About Lamplight
Lamplight is a free set of party games built around the Bible for Jehovah's Witness families, friends and congregations. One device becomes the game board, and everyone else plays on their phone, like a game show in your living room or on a video call.
We wanted something the whole family could enjoy together (the five-year-old who loves the account of Noah, the teenager who wants to win, and the grandparent who has read the Bible many times) while making the Scriptures the star of the evening.
Our content principles
- One Bible. Every question is based on the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures and cites a verse you can open on jw.org with one tap.
- Faithful to the Bible. Nothing in Lamplight should contradict the Bible or the teachings published on jw.org. We use the Bible's own terms: Jehovah, torture stake, illustration, congregation, the holy spirit as God's active force.
- Respectful art. We never picture Jehovah God or Satan. When a scene needs to show Jehovah's presence, it is shown only as an endless bright light shining from above.
- Wholesome fun. No holiday themes, luck, magic or wagering. Competition stays kind: wrong answers cost nothing unless the host chooses otherwise.
- Checked carefully. Questions are written for four levels, then checked again for accuracy, wording and age-appropriateness. If something is uncertain, it is left out.
- Four languages. Papiamentu, Dutch and Spanish questions were translated by volunteers and are marked for review by native speakers. English is the source text.
Found a mistake?
We're human, and we want every question to be right. Please tell us the question, the answer shown and the scripture. We'll check it against the New World Translation and fix it quickly.

Privacy
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking or analytics cookies, and no trackers from other companies.
- Names and scores live in the server's memory while a room is open, and the room forgets them when it closes. Two things last longer: the visitor log described below, which keeps the names typed on each device to join a game, and a recap of a night that someone chooses to share with the share button at the end. A recap keeps only the date and time, whether it was day or evening, the language, the number of games, the scores with their animals, the scriptures that were read, one “Talk about it” prompt, and first names only if the host chose to add them. It is kept for 30 days under a private link that search engines do not list, and then deleted.
- Your browser remembers your name, animal, level, language and display preferences on your own device so you can rejoin quickly, along with the list you save for “Bring my family” and your Practice progress. When you choose a language, it is also kept in a small cookie so every page opens in it. The host screen also remembers which questions it has shown, so new ones come first next time. While a tab is open, it also keeps a short note that your visit has started, so the visit is counted once. Each phone also keeps a code it made up for itself and sends it to every room it joins, so a host can remove that phone from the room; the room forgets it when it closes. Clearing site data removes all of this.
- Drawings in Sketch & Seek are only sent to the people in your room and are never stored.
- To see which games and questions work well, we keep anonymous totals by day: how many games were started, finished or left early; which game, level and question language; how many players were in a game (in groups such as 4–6); how long games last on average; and, for each question, how often it was shown, answered and answered correctly, and which answer choice was picked. These totals hold nothing about people: no names, no room codes, no device or network addresses, no typed answers, and nothing more exact than the day. We also keep anonymous visit totals by day: pages viewed, the site that sent you, an estimated country from your time zone, device type and visit length, the site language, a campaign tag from the link, and which pages lead to which. For these totals your network address and browser are used only in memory, for one day, to count each visitor once; the totals themselves keep no address and use no cookies.
- Besides these totals, we keep a visitor log that is not anonymous. For each device and browser it keeps: the network address (IP address); browser and device details, such as the system (iOS, Android and so on) and its version, the browser, the phone model, the screen size, whether the site is installed as an app and whether dark mode is on; the time zone and the country it points to; the languages of the browser and of the site; the pages viewed; the site that linked here and any campaign tag in the link; when the first and last visits were, how many there were and how long they lasted; and the names typed on that device to join a game, with the time and the room code. So a child's name and the device's IP address can be kept. Each record is deleted 30 days after that device's last visit, and the log holds at most 5,000 records (the oldest go first).
- We keep this log to see how the site is used and to keep it safe, for example to spot misuse. Only the site owner can see it, on an admin page that needs a password. It is never shown to other visitors or on game screens, and it is not sold or shared with anyone. If your browser sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”, nothing is added to it.
- To have your record removed sooner, email support@ankorallc.com with the subject “Lamplight”. Tell us roughly when you visited and any name you used to join a game, so we can find it.
Questions & answers
Do players need an app or an account?
No. Players open the site on any phone, tablet or computer and type the room code (or scan the QR code). Nothing to install, no sign-up.
What do I need to host?
Any device with a web browser that everyone can see: a TV with a browser, a laptop connected to a TV, a projector, or just a laptop on the table.
Can we play with family who live far away?
Yes! Share your host screen in a video call. Everyone joins with the room code on their own phone, wherever they are.
Can each person use their own language?
Yes. Each phone picks its language when joining. Questions appear in that language when a translation exists; the big screen uses the host's choice.
How many people can play?
Up to 40 players in a room. Scroll Showdown and Truth Finder are most fun with up to about 12. Turn on teams for bigger groups.
What if a little one can't read yet?
Choose Little Lamps, turn on “Read questions aloud”, and pair them with an older player in a team. Every answer has its own picture (a flame, a fish, grapes…) on both the TV and the phone.
What if Grandma's eyes get tired?
Tap “Easy reading” for bigger, clearer text on any phone, and choose the Relaxed pace for more time on every question.
Can anyone join our room?
Only people with your 5-letter code. Rooms close automatically when you finish. The host can remove a player at any time, and names are filtered.
